What Louis Armstrong was for the cornet and trumpet, Sidney Bechet was for the clarinet and saxophone. He was the first great jazz soloist and one of the first New Orleans musicians to tour Europe before 1920. For example, he played   as early as 1919 with Will Marion Cook's Southern Syncopated Orchestra before King George V at Buckingham Palace Ansermet in the Revue Romande was the first recognition of jazz   by a classical musician.

The SIDNEY BECHET CELEBRATION ORCHESTRA was founded on the 50th anniversary of his death and commemorated this great soprano saxophonist and clarinettist on May 14, 2009 with a concert at the Swiss JazzOrama in Uster.

In addition to Bechet's own compositions, the repertoire also includes pieces that he has often played.
